A DAY AS A LESBIAN
Lauryn and I dressed up as Lesbians for a day. We didn’t have to buy anything we just made do of what we had. Lauryn wore an oversized black polo and big boy’s jeans with work boots. I wore a big khaki shorts and a manly Harley Davidson shirt with tiny-runners. We both had our hair slicked back with lots of jell. As we walked into the mall we had a lot of people stare. Almost all of the adults in the mall stared at us. We didn’t walk by one person without them staring. It was really weird to see how everybody looked at us. As we entered the mall we joined hands to make it look like we were a couple. Everybody in the mall looked at us like it was the worst thing in the world. People these days are set on their beliefs and if something is against that then it is the worst thing in the world. Everybody’s beliefs have a lot to do with their religion. There was a grandma that looked very prim and proper that walked by with her grandchildren and looked as us one time and hurried away with the kids. As we continued walking through the mall we had hundreds of looks from people all over the mall. The only smile we got was another lesbian couple walking by. One high school boy dressed in Hollister walking by even had a comment to say. His comment was “nasty dykes”. That comment really offended us. We went to the store called “Hot Topic” and not one person in there said anything or gave us look. One employee even came up to us and started a conversation. The reaction there was a lot different to when we went into Express. When we went into Express everything went back to normal we had all the people look at us and stare. We knew that when everybody looked at us then whispered they were talking about us. The only we couldn’t figure out was why, I am sure people see lesbians every day but why the big deal for us. We came up with the solution that it was a big deal because we were so young. We are not lesbian but even if we were it’s our decision and no one has the right to put their opinion in our personal life. The comment was probably the worst reaction that we had all night. Even though when people would walk by and turn their heads to watch and stare nobody else said anything but that kid. Lauryn and I think that we got such of a reaction out of people because of our age. Most lesbians come out later on in life or some people don’t come out at all. To see two 16-year olds walking around as open lesbians would be a bit shocking. All the reactions that we got we did not expect. We expected a few looks and maybe a laugh but we never expected to have comments said to us or have everybody we passed stare at us. Over all we think that we got a very bit reaction out of all the people we saw.
ANALYSIS
Lauryn and I were very shocked and disturbed by how people stared at us and didn’t care how much that we noticed. We were very hurt by the reaction that we got from people. Like I said it is our decision and our personal life that is no one else’s business. We felt that is was very rude for that boy to make that derogative comment. Lauryn and I knew that as soon as we walked away we would be talked about. It was very mind changing. It made both of us think, do we ever act like that in public? Do we ever stare at people like that? It has made us both realize that everything people do in life they chose to do that. Everybody is normal to themselves. If we don’t think it is normal I am sure they do. It is very rude and wrong to judge people.
